Slate Chippings

Add rich colour and texture to beds, borders and water features with Slate Chippings UK landscapers and home gardeners favour for low-maintenance finishes. Slate suppresses weeds, holds moisture in the soil and looks especially striking when wet. It is a popular choice for Japanese-style gardens, rockeries and modern planting schemes. A layer of slate also stops soil splashing onto paths after heavy rain.

This collection features Bowland Stone slate in three natural colours: plum, green and blue. Each is supplied in a 750kg bulk bag and offered in 20mm or 40mm sizes, with smaller pieces suiting paths and pots and larger pieces making a bolder statement in borders. Plum and green slate are described as fish friendly, making them suitable around ponds. Laying a weed membrane underneath gives the best long-term result. The darker tones also make a striking contrast against silver foliage, grasses and evergreen shrubs. A depth of around 5cm is usually enough to cover the ground and help keep weeds at bay. Many gardeners also use slate as a top dressing for containers and alpine troughs.

We show colours, sizes and bag weights clearly so you can work out how much you need. Our prices are competitive against UK landscaping suppliers, and every listing is checked by our team before publishing.
